Cain wandered for what seemed like hours along the edge of the trees, finding water on their leaves to wet his parched lips. There wasn't much moisture, but it was something, better than nothing at all.
Every hour or so, he really didn't know with no sense of time, Cain tried to shout for his lover. It was a hopeless attempt, but just he couldn't give up completely or he had no reason to continue moving. Yet as the hours progressed each shout for weaker, less of an attempt and more just him trying to keep going.
Until after the last one he thought... Was it... A howl, in the distance? He couldn't be sure, not Auth the rustle of leaves and wind that made it difficult for his human hearing. "ELIJAH!! I'M HERE! ELIJAH!" Louder this time he shouted again, knowing even if he couldn't hear, Elijah could and the hybrid would surely and definitely come to him.
The first feeling of hope since arriving took over Cain and he started to run back in the direction he came. He sprinted, dashing, tripping over vines to go stumbling but that didn't stop him. "Please, please let that be you."
