In truth they had been apart no more than a full day, yet it already seemed decades, so horrible were these 24 hours of hopeless loneliness that it may as well have been years.
"Elijah. Oh God, Elijah, I thought... I don't know where we are. But when I woke and you weren't there or anywhere, and... Elijah! Fuck I'm so relieved. I wouldn't know what I'd do..." He just buried his face against Elijah's shoulder, breathing quickly and having trouble catching his breath. He hiccuped although his eyes remained dry.
