sonofadam: ((≖_≖ )... I'm listening)

Cain knew not what else to call that intense feeling that he felt when Elijah shared his memories. It was a curiosity towards his person and emotions of such intensity that it felt like that was what it was. Yet Elijah denied it otherwise and Cain felt he should do him the honor of respecting the man's knowledge of himself. Vampirism wasn't something he could easily comprehend, and this little moment of crossed consciousness showed him that very well.

"My apologies," he said, his tone regaining some of his earlier confidence.

No, there was no point in telling this vampire about the despair that Cain felt, or what drove him to be found by Klaus, when he was trying to get himself killed and walked out as the sole survivor. Or how he had confessed everything to Klaus before the hybrid revealed what he was and subjugated him. That would probably only disappoint Elijah and ruin that erroneous but beautiful image the vampire held of the immortal human.

And Cain wanted to preserve that image, despite what Elijah promised to not judge, so he stopped with what he was going to say and shook his head. "You are right. I try not to look behind me too far either." Or ahead, to be honest, although that Elijah didn't need to know.

"I suppose we can give this a try. We are not leaving each other's company anytime soon, there is no point in making an awkward situation of it. Like I said, I like you."
