sonofadam: ((╯_╰)... Sadness)

Cain sank down into the bed and turned so he faced the vampire, his eyebrow raising mildly at the other's declaration of his own prowess. He didn't doubt that if there was an Original who would be able to fight Klaus to a tie, it would be Elijah, the elder Original who kept his brother in check.

Yet what Cain worried about wasn't Elijah's ability to, but his willingness. It was no secret either how the vampire in a suit gave into his youngest brother's whims. It was part of his family first, his Always and Forever. Cain didn't doubt his ability, he just didn't see Elijah being interested enough to go up against his brother.

Although, there was that moment of sharing earlier, when he viewed the vampire's memories, and what was that depth of feeling that he felt from the Original. It was so intense and strong, that was the only reason Cain found there was a sliver of believability to what Elijah claimed.

"No, obviously not," he sad, his voice too soft to make out if it was meant to be patronizing or merely tiredness. It wasn't said because he believed him though. It was clear that the immortal man hadn't found anything worth putting his faith in a very long time, and until he could see Elijah truly gave him a reason to think otherwise, he wasn't going to get his hopes up simply because the Original had no idea how much damage that would do.

The worst thing that could happen was to get him worked up over something that meant nothing in the end. Because so few things truly meant anything in his life, and he'll wait to see if the vampire might be a light to his eternal darkness, or that flash of fireworks he first thought he was.

"You're a man of your word, I have heard that, but let's not rock that boat. We can have what we have here and let it be that." Not to mention, Cain felt a sort of... not quite loyalty, but his own attachment to Klaus. Yet that didn't stop him from wrapping his arm around the vampire now, taking comfort in this moment that was offered to them both.
