Cain probably shouldn't have challenged Klaus. He probably shouldn't have done a lot of things, especially where Klaus was concerned, but telling the volatile hybrid that his idea was a bad one to his face wasn't without consequences, and it resulted in his chest being punched out and his heart pulled beating from his chest. He saw it coming really, but he had to say it because it was a piss poor idea that would turn the vampires of the French Quarter against the hybrid, but of course Klaus would hear nothing of it.
And since Klaus couldn't bow nicely from an argument, he wrapped his hand around Cain's heart and Cain could feel it squeeze in his chest even through the radiating pain from getting his ribs broken and pushed aside. It was cold, more than the pain, it was a constricting coldness. He dropped like a ton of bricks onto the ground, collapsing in a fold of limbs splayed every which way.
A heart being pulled out wasn't the same as a stabbed heart, and it had happened often enough by now that Cain knew he was going to lose about half a day, at least. Probably wake up in the evening in the foyer alone and still need to clean up the damn bloody mess, literally, that his body made while he was dead. Why couldn't Klaus just snap his neck this time?
That was his last thought before.... complete blackness.

"I doubt Klaus will come looking for me in my private quarters when he returns, and there are other servants to meet his needs. He doesn't always have to use you. Stay. Don't go to him now. I won't allow him to hurt you for this." Elijah meant it too. There was no way that he'd allow Klaus to punish Cain for simply being intimate with Elijah. He would say that he forced the servant and not that they chose to be together.
It would be that simple. It was already made up in the Original's mind. He reached out and did his best to pull Cain toward him, wanting to hold him in his arms, to feel their bodies together-- needing to kiss the one who'd made him feel something he'd never found with another person before. He wanted to spend time tracing over this new body, and looking over the features of this man whose wisdom outnumbered that of anyone else on the planet.

"Not to speak ill of your brother, but you know what an impossible man he is." Elijah had been with him far longer than Cain had, and Cain had been with him nearing a century.
Yet despite his words, Cain was turning in the bed so he could be facing Elijah. "You actually do not have a lot of servants running around. I'm certain you noticed, but not many have survived his tantrums." His own immortality was certainly the reason why he had survived it thus far.
"You know there is no allowing Klaus do anything. I'm not certain anyone is capable of stopping him if he is determined enough. It is a good thought though." As he said that, he reached out and lightly brushed at Elijah's hair while the other man peppered light admiring kisses upon him. It was so strange, having this man be here to do this, and Can absently wrapped a large around around his form to embrace him against his chest. Although knowing it made no real difference, he felt more at peace with Elijah against him.
"If I'm not to go anywhere, I'm going to stay the night. Do me a favor and don't let your brother drop me into an ocean while I'm asleep."

He smiled lightly at the mention of Klaus being difficult, and licked over his lips, still tasting the salt and copper from Cain's sweat and blood on his lips. "I know I haven't been home as much in recent times as others, and I don't know how many times you've suffered through watching my brother and I fight, but I can hold my own against him. He may bite me, but in the end we come to terms and he tends to bleed for me and heal me as well. We fight, but I'm as vicious as he is. I can handle his tantrums amazingly well."
Elijah did realize that Klaus tended towards killing help that displeased him, but there were some that were turned, and kept and others that were kept for their entire natural lives-- those that served the family well, and were under Elijah's protection. They may not have lived in the household, but then again, very few people lived under their roof. Elijah was fairly surprised that Klaus had allowed Cain in this close, honestly.
"No one allows me to do anything either. We are originals and all do things as we wish. If you and I wish to be together, then it will be. Klaus will get over it eventually, and he will not be taking you anywhere. I swear it to you." Elijah wrapped his arms around the other man, rather grateful that he'd decided to stay tonight. He laid his head upon Cain's chest and closed his eyes to the steady thudding within the cavity below. it would be so easy to let go and fall asleep.
Turning his head, he kissed the skin where his head lay, nuzzling against it softly. It wasn't something he could ever remember doing before-- taking comfort from another like this. Elijah was always the one offering the comfort, being the strong protective man with arms that held someone. He would have thought it impossible to relax, but it was so deceptively easy. It felt like the world couldn't reach in and grab them here. "Come, let's sleep. Tomorrow is a new day."

Yet what Cain worried about wasn't Elijah's ability to, but his willingness. It was no secret either how the vampire in a suit gave into his youngest brother's whims. It was part of his family first, his Always and Forever. Cain didn't doubt his ability, he just didn't see Elijah being interested enough to go up against his brother.
Although, there was that moment of sharing earlier, when he viewed the vampire's memories, and what was that depth of feeling that he felt from the Original. It was so intense and strong, that was the only reason Cain found there was a sliver of believability to what Elijah claimed.
"No, obviously not," he sad, his voice too soft to make out if it was meant to be patronizing or merely tiredness. It wasn't said because he believed him though. It was clear that the immortal man hadn't found anything worth putting his faith in a very long time, and until he could see Elijah truly gave him a reason to think otherwise, he wasn't going to get his hopes up simply because the Original had no idea how much damage that would do.
The worst thing that could happen was to get him worked up over something that meant nothing in the end. Because so few things truly meant anything in his life, and he'll wait to see if the vampire might be a light to his eternal darkness, or that flash of fireworks he first thought he was.
"You're a man of your word, I have heard that, but let's not rock that boat. We can have what we have here and let it be that." Not to mention, Cain felt a sort of... not quite loyalty, but his own attachment to Klaus. Yet that didn't stop him from wrapping his arm around the vampire now, taking comfort in this moment that was offered to them both.
